Salient achievements

  • Successfully completed 3 research projects, viz., (i) In vitro and in vivo evaluation of protein quality and utilization of silk worm pupae meal of Assam as protein source in poultry diet (1998-2001), (ii) Utilization of nutritious cereals and byproducts of oilseed based cropping systems for poultry production (2000-2004) and (iii) Measures to counteract/detoxify aflatoxins in oilseeds and nutritious coarse cereals based poultry and livestock feeds (2000-2004).
  • Economic Poultry ration formulated for rural adoption with locally available feed ingredients like rice kani, MOC etc. where regular feed stuff are either costly or scanty.
  • Least cost housing design developed for rural poultry using locally available materials like bamboo, thatch, polythene, CI sheets etc.
  • Explored the possibility of Broiler rearing in scavenging system in farmer's premises with minimal supplementary feedstuff.
  • Technology developed to detoxify/counteract aflatoxins in animal feeds through the application of herbs like ginger etc.
  • Exploring possibility of indigenous chicken and duck farming as an economic venture with low input technology in rural situation.
  • Silkworm pupae meal is found to be the best alternative of fishmeal for preparation of poultry ration under local condition.
  • Conducted various farmers training programs in collaboration with the SIRD, DEE (AAU), NGOs etc.
  • Involved in developing various study materials for certificate courses in poultry production for Sri Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, Guwahati.
  • The department has released a dual purpose multicolour chicken variety ('Kamrupa') for rural poultry on 11-02-2015.
  • The department has organized National Symposium on Rural Poultry for Livelihood, Nutritional and Economic Security and XXXIII Annual Conference of IPSA on November 3-5, 2016.
  • Dr. N. Kalita, Professor, Poultry Science presented two numbers of Research papers (one oral + one poster) at International Worlds' Poultry Congress held at Beijing, China in 2016.
  • Dr. D. Sapcota, Professor, Poultry Science has undergone Post Doctoral Associateship for 6 months from Sept/16 to March/17 at North Carolina State University, USA.
  • Dr. D. Sapcota, Professor, Poultry Science attended 'Eastern North Carolina Broiler Production Short Course' at Duplin County Center, Kenansville, NC, USA on Sept 21/2016.
  • Dr. D. Sapcota, Professor, Poultry Science attended International Production & Processing Expo at Georgia World Congress Center; 285 Andrew Young International Blvd NW; Atlanta, Georgia USA in Jan. 31 - Feb. 2, 2017.
  • Dr. D. Sapcota, Professor, Poultry Science attended 2017 International Poultry Scientific Forum and acted as judge for oral presentation at Georgia World Congress Center, Building B, Atlanta, Georgia USA in Jan. 30-31, 2017.
  • Dr. N. Kalita, Professor, Poultry Science has received best Scientist award of FVSc, AAU, Khanapara in 2016.
  • The department has conducted TSP programme covering about 400 families during the last 5 years.
  • The department has trained 135 numbers of UG students under Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) on hatchery management and commercial broiler production. The students generated a total income of Rs. 9,73,919/- till date under ELP.

  • Dr. D. Sapcota, Professor, Poultry Science made Oral presentation in the11th International Poultry Show and Seminar 2019 organised by the World's Poultry Science Association Bangladesh Branch in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 5-6th march 2019.
  • The department has organized World Egg day on 12th Oct/2018
  • The department has organized four training programmes on skilled development of poultry production technology of 7 days duration in the year 2018 with intake capacity of 20 farmers in each programme.
  • The department has organized one-day Regional Level Farmers-Scientist Interaction (RLFSI) on Poultry farming in NE India in the year 2018 with intake capacity of 300 farmers in the programme
  • The department has organized four training programmes on poultry farming in four different KVKs (Kamrup, Morigaon, Dhubri and Sibsagar) of Assam. A total of 40 to 45 farmers participated in each programme.
  • The Dept. has organized a two-day Broad Subject Matter Area (BSMA) workshop on Livestock Products and Production Management on Oct 9-10/2018 for five subjects viz. Livestock Production Management, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Animal Nutrition, Livestock Products Technology and Poultry Science.
