Salient achievements

  • Prevalence of Staphylococcus hyicus in dermatitic livestock from Assam (India) was reported.
  • Detection of Verotoxic Escherichia coli (VTEC) in foods of animal origin and human beings.
  • Survival of VTEC O111 and O157:H7 in red meat gravy and beef patties added with different biological and chemical preservatives.
  • Detection of different E. coli and Salmonella serotypes in chicken and pork.
  • Meat quality of pork and chicken in Greater Guwahati and Shillong.
  • Detection of tuberculosis in elephants.
  • Adulteration and pesticide residues of milk in Greater Guwahati area.
  • Drug development from natural sources against Mycobacterium spp.
  • Determination of water quality in organized and private livestock farms.
  • Active involvement in various extension programmes including public awareness on different zoonotic diseases and food hygiene through TV, NSS camps organized by Govt. of Assam, Associate Directorate of Extension and Associate Director of Students? Welfare, FVSc, AAU.
  • Inclusion of Professor & Head as Member to the State Animal Husbandry Department Advisory Committee by Govt. of Assam in 2007.
  • Preparation of 3 practical manuals on Milk Hygiene, Meat Hygiene, and Zoonoses and Human Health for the UG students.
  • Participation of faculty members in different International and National Conferences and Symposiums, National Seminars and Workshops.
  • The faculty member and PG student have been awarded best poster presentation in Annual Conference and National Symposium onNewer Strategies for the Diagnosis and Control of Zoonoses in 2005.
  • Fellow of IAVPHS has been awarded to the Faculty Member.
  • Award of Honour has been awarded to the Faculty members in different National Conferences.
  • Five PG students have cleared ASRB- NET since 2010
